Hello! Wednesday was the last time I met with Carson and Bailey. The main thing we did was record the video clips.
The night before I went to the ECC, I made a script for the students about what they were going to say during the video. Since they are kindergarteners, I wrote each individual scripts on notecards so they had an easier time reading.
Before we started recording, I read over the notecards with each student so if they had a hard time, I could help them.
Once we started recording, it was a breeze, kind of.
The only problem I had, once I started recording a few clips, a message would pop up on my iPhone saying there wasn't enough space for the movie. So when that happened, I would have to stop Carson and Bailey. They got frustrated because they were missing recess.
I figured out the problem by deleting random pictures I had on my phone. After I did that, recording the movie clips was simple.
My students did a great job considering they are just learning to read! I am so proud of what an awesome job they did!

Service Project: Day 2
Today was the second time I met with my students for the service project. At first they seemed a little bit more focused than Tuesday but after a while, I was sadly mistaken.
To start off this session with them, I introduced some sample videos about the Life Cycle of a Frog so they would have a better understanding about what the video would be like once we create it. We watched about 3 videos. Which all of them included a ton of great information!
After I showed some videos from YouTube, we gathered information for the video. Since my students are only in kindergarten, I didn't let them use the computer. But they showed me and told what I needed to do. They were a lot more technologically savy than I thought they would be at that age!
I could tell that after a while of gathering some information, they were losing focus and starting to ask when we would be done. I figured it would be a good time to end it since I showed them the main things I needed to.
When we meet next week, we'll start the storyboard and hopefully start recording. But we may have to have another session to record the video because I don't want them to lose focus. But I am excited to collaborate the final video and see how it looks!

Service Project: Day 1
Hello! Tuesday was the first day I met with my students for the Service Project. I'm working with 2 kindergarteners from Flour Bluff ECC. Their names are Bailey and Carson. The teacher chose students that she thought would work well with me for the project.
On Tuesday, before we got started on the actual project, I explained to them into depth about what we were going to do so they would understand better. They were so excited that they were chosen and that their parents are letting them be involved.
I let their teacher decide on the topic. So hopefully she'll be able to use the voice thread or video for future science lessons. We are doing the service project over the life cycle of a frog. Once I told Bailey and Carson, they were even more excited.
On Tuesday, I led them through the KWL Chart. Since they are kindergarteners, they had no idea what KWL chart was or what essential/ unit questions were. After I briefly explained these topics, we completed the KWL chart and the questions.
Since they have a short attention span, it was difficult to complete anything else.

Disabilities Field Trip
This week the class visited the Disabilities office for a field trip. Ms Weir led the lecture and showed us many different assistive technology tools that are used for students with disabilities. This lecture was very interesting to me. I was very intrigued to learn about all the different tools that are used.
Ms Weir showed us 13 different tools that are commonly used. At the end of this post, I'm going to attach the notes that I took during this lecture that will go more into depth about the tools.
The most interesting tools that caught my eye the most were the Jaws ScreenReader, UbiDuo Communicators, and the Comfort Contego. The Jaws reads everything on the computer screen to the student. The UbiDuo is a communicator that deaf people or hearing impaired people use. This device sends text messages to each other to help communicate. 2 keyboards are connected that allow this to happen. The Comfort Contego is an assistive listening device for people with hearing impairments. Students put on headphones and are able to point the device to the speaker. There are 5 different levels. 5 is the loudest and 0 is mute.
All of these tools were very interesting but I only picked out three.

Copyright Knowledge
Just recently this week, my class met with the librarian and she taught us about Copyright Knowledge. I had no idea there was so much to learn and know about copyright. As a student we have many responsibilities and resources to refer to about Copyright. Copyright is a legal concept regarding 'the right to copy'.
There are four main concepts I want to express today: fair use, teach act, creative commons, and free resources. Fair use is a doctrine that permits limited use of copyrighted material without acquiring permission from the rights holders. According to the website Copyright Crash Course, "The TEACH Act expands the scope of educators' rights to perform and display works and to make the copies integral to such performances and displays for digital distance education, making the rights closer to those we
have in face-to-face teaching."
Creative commons helps people share their knowledge and creativity in the world. It also supports technical infrastructure that maximizes digital creativity and sharing. There are many free resources available for use which include YouTube, SlideShare, and Flickr. When using these resources, it's very smart to always cite your source. If you want to get free images, use google; go to google images, advanced search then find usage rights- free to use and then share.

Spreadsheets
I actually had a lot of fun with this Spreadsheet session. I learned how to use excel in middle school and have used it numerous times before so this session came easy to me.
The only tricky part I encountered at first was using the functions. I forgot how to access the functions but after exploring the program, I remembered where the functions were and I was on my way to completing the assignment.
Another tricky part I came across was trying to figure out what chart outline would be best appropriate with my data. I looked over quite a few different ones, but decided on an original bar graph. However, different ones could have been used.
Excel is a fairly easy program to use; just follow directions and you'll be on your way to a finished document! You can use excel for many different things.
I used an inquiry based approach by asking myself questions and finding the answers to them. I came up with three questions that I would have my students answer when they create a similar spreadsheet.
1) Instead of 'inserting function', figure out how to type in the equation in the designated area.
Example: =B2-B5... that gives the difference.
2) When creating a graph, which graph outline would be best for your project?
3) Think of another project where you can create an excel document for. Create your own expenses and functions. Include directions so others can follow along as well.

Movie Clip Finale
Throughout this week we had to make a one minute video clip that included my specific activity plan and how the seven elements of movie making were incorporated in my clip. You can see both of these if my previous blog, Digital Storytelling.
I can tell you now that I was very overwhelmed and stressed about the moviemaking clip from the get go. I am not very technology savy so I had no clue how to even create a movie let alone upload it to my computer.
It took me a while but after calming myself down, I was able to figure everything out.
I used my iPhone and recorded the clips from there. After I recorded, I uploaded to iMovie and pieced everything together, making a few changes.
Creating the clip was pretty fun and exciting because I can see myself making clips for my students to watch in the future. I can teach lessons through movies if I'm going to be absent so the students can still learn--- but from the internet.
I recorded the clips seperately. So when I had to join all the clips together, it got extremely complicated. Editing the video was fun because I got to explore iMovie and figure out how everything worked.
Editing different light resolutions also got very tricky. But after exploring and googling a few things, I finally got the hang of everything and after that point, it went smoothly.
I thought I would be able to fly through making the movie but once I got started, I realized it was going to take a lot longer than planned. I had to sit down and just focus on everything and not stress myself out. At times I would get overwhelmed, so I'd have to chill for a few minutes and clear my head and then I would get started again.
When the time came for me to upload the video, I had a lot of technically difficulties. I first tried uploading the video to the blog, it failed every attempt. Then I tried to upload to TeacherTube, the upload would get to about 7% and then fail. After trying that three or four times, my last resort was uploading to Youtube. I thought I would have the same trouble so it worried me. The first three times I tried it, it would say "Your video has been aborted". I got so worked up and overwhelmed I didn't know what to do. I ended up talking to a few people from my class to see if they had any suggestions.
I decided to try youtube one last time, it finally worked!
Now that my movie is complete and uploaded, I can happily say that my moviemaking experience was fun and exciting and I can see myself in the future making a video for my students to watch.
